"I'm never leaving Oahu"...JOKES -- January 11, 2021

Aloha!

We have transfers this week and I was 95% sure that I was going to stay in Htown and that Sister Israelsen was leaving....LIES. I'M GOING TO LANAI!!!!! Lanai is a tiny secluded island by Maui. It's the smallest island that missionaries serve on. And it's only me and my new companion, Sister Gumil, on the entire Island.

There are 4,500 people on the Island and most of them are Phillipino. Most of the people speak Tagalog, including Sister Gumil. English is her second language, but she's basically fluent in English now. I am so excited but so nervous! I got a covid test today and then I think I'll fly to Lanai tomorrow! This transfer is Sister Gumil's last transfer, so they told me that I'm going over there to take over when she leaves...this was the last thing that I was expecting.

Not many missionaries serve on Lanai and the first Sister missionaries got sent there last transfer, so this is pretty rare. I'm probably going to be the only white person on the Island lol. There's no target, Walmart, or anything like that. It's also a biking area. (It takes 20 minutes to walk from one side of the Island to another, so biking will be easy!)

I was also able to go to Pearl Harbor today which was such an awesome experience! I had to go before I left Oahu, haha. I wasn't able to go to Laie to see the temple, but that's okay. I'll just have to come back. 😉 I am so nervous but also so excited to go to Lanai!! Let's do this thing!! 😄

I have way more pictures from Pearl Harbor, but it won't let me send them all. If you want more pics, email me and I can send them! The spirit felt at Pearl Harbor was SO strong. It's insane and I definitely want to go back again one day and spend a little more time there. I am so grateful for all of those who have served for our country and for those who are currently serving now. God bless America! I love this country!!  ❤❤

The rains came down, and the floods came up 🌧☔-- March 15, 2021

Aloha!! This week was kind of crazy...it was a hard week. I'm not sure if you all saw, but Hawaii had severe rainfall and floods this week on all of the Islands. It was scary. We drove a lot this week and I thought for sure we'd get into an accident a few times because of the rain. Two men even died on Maui from a landslide. Crazy stuff.  The weather made us hecka depressed so that was kind of hard. We taught Lacey and Laylynn again on Friday! Lacey asked if Laylynn can get baptized in May..of course we said yes haha. But we're a little concerned because we think that Lacey just wants to baptize her just to baptize her. Clearly we want her to be baptized and converted to the church, not just baptized just because. Laylynn does not want to be baptized either. So it's a work in progress. Honestly, not much happened this week because of the weather.  We did meet with a couple in our ward, the Brown's. They were the Mission President and wife of the Alpine, Germany miss...

We say "a hui hou" not "Aloha oe" -- February 22, 2021

Aloha!! Well, I am being transferred off Lanai...and I'm going to KAUAI!! I found out last Sunday that I would be leaving Lanai. President Walker said he woke up in the middle of the night and had a distinct impression that I needed to be somewhere else. I was not expecting that at all! I was told that I was going to be on Lanai for a while. I was actually excited to stay in Lanai because the work started progressing. But they're sending two awesome Filipino Elders over. One of the Elders coming, Elder Obando, has already served on Lanai for seven months and he's coming back ahaha. But he's awesome and the members here love him. So, we figured that I'd be going to Big Island because a ton of Sisters are leaving there..so I figured I'd go there or to Maui. But I was not expecting Kauai at all because they just put new sisters there. It's kind of interesting because there will be four of us sisters serving in the same ward. So we're kind of in a quad but m...
