Geckos, roaches, and conference -- October 5, 2020

Aloha everyone! It's been another fun week in quarantine. We get out of quarantine this week!! We go to the mission home on Wednesday and we will get our Christmas letters which tells us who our trainer is and what area we're going to! I'm so excited and so nervous! I've heard horror stories of bad trainers, so I pray that I get a good trainer.

We have had many creatures and new friends in our pad this week. We had a little gecko that jumped onto Sister Brown when she opened the door the other day. We were making a music video so let me know if you want it and I can send it to you haha. Yesterday was the most eventful. We probably kill about 5 cockroaches a day, so that's normal. But poor Sister Brown had a cockroach in the shower with her that we had to go kill. About 5 minutes later we saw the BIGGEST cockroach/bug that I have ever seen. I'll send a picture of him. Nasty things. After lunch Sister Bowman was in her room and we just hear her yell LIZARD! There was a huge gecko in their room, so we had to catch that little guy too. I have a funny video of that so I'll try to send that. It was hilarious. One of the STLs told us that is normal and that they just let them hang in their pads....heck no I will not do that. I will get those things out, haha. They're cute but I just think of Parent Trap where that lady has a gecko go in her mouth and I just can't have the possibility of that happening i'm sorry.

One of my favorite things that we did this week was we got a Book of Mormon and wrote our testimonies on the front page. We also put some tabs in there and we are challenged to pray to see who we should give it to. I have such a strong testimony of the Book of Mormon, so this will be fun.

We have lots of jam sessions and dancing in this pad. We can listen to any music that is appropriate and brings the spirit. Our STL gave us her playlist and it has so many good songs! It has milky chance, the lumineers, disney, high school musical, church music, and lots of other good songs. I know the just dance to September so I taught the girls and we danced to that haha.

We have had lots of people bring us treats while we're here! First we had elders bring us chocolate covered macadamia nuts which are so popular here. The same day we had a member in the ward bring us malasadas which were incredible. They taste a lot like beignets, so of course I loved them. We were eating them and Sister Bowman goes, "And this was the moment I knew that I would get fat in Hawaii." We all sad amen haha. We workout every morning though, so there's still hope.

Conference was so awesome!! I had so many prayers answered!! Elder Uchtdorf's talk was my favorite. It helped me with some things I've been thinking about and struggling with. I got teary eyed many times during conference because it just felt like God was speaking specifically to me many times. I loved it!! Next Monday I will be out of quarantine and in my new area! Woo Hoo!! Have a great week everyone! i hope that you don't have to kill any cockroaches!!

The rains came down, and the floods came up 🌧☔-- March 15, 2021

Aloha!! This week was kind of crazy...it was a hard week. I'm not sure if you all saw, but Hawaii had severe rainfall and floods this week on all of the Islands. It was scary. We drove a lot this week and I thought for sure we'd get into an accident a few times because of the rain. Two men even died on Maui from a landslide. Crazy stuff.  The weather made us hecka depressed so that was kind of hard. We taught Lacey and Laylynn again on Friday! Lacey asked if Laylynn can get baptized in May..of course we said yes haha. But we're a little concerned because we think that Lacey just wants to baptize her just to baptize her. Clearly we want her to be baptized and converted to the church, not just baptized just because. Laylynn does not want to be baptized either. So it's a work in progress. Honestly, not much happened this week because of the weather.  We did meet with a couple in our ward, the Brown's. They were the Mission President and wife of the Alpine, Germany miss...

We say "a hui hou" not "Aloha oe" -- February 22, 2021

Aloha!! Well, I am being transferred off Lanai...and I'm going to KAUAI!! I found out last Sunday that I would be leaving Lanai. President Walker said he woke up in the middle of the night and had a distinct impression that I needed to be somewhere else. I was not expecting that at all! I was told that I was going to be on Lanai for a while. I was actually excited to stay in Lanai because the work started progressing. But they're sending two awesome Filipino Elders over. One of the Elders coming, Elder Obando, has already served on Lanai for seven months and he's coming back ahaha. But he's awesome and the members here love him. So, we figured that I'd be going to Big Island because a ton of Sisters are leaving there..so I figured I'd go there or to Maui. But I was not expecting Kauai at all because they just put new sisters there. It's kind of interesting because there will be four of us sisters serving in the same ward. So we're kind of in a quad but m...
